Founder's profile

Shubham, founded in April 1993, was formally inaugurated on 17th September 1993 by the honorable Minister for Education in Bihar and started its activities through its registered office from 9th November 1993, the birth date of its founder and General Secretary Dr.Sangeeta Agarwal. She teaches Sanskrit in the L S.College, Muzaffarpur.

Dr.Agarwal was born blind. As there was not any facility in Muzaffarpur or even in the whole state of Bihar for the education of visually impaired girls, her parents made a very difficult choice. Keeping her future in mind they sent their pretty and intelligent daughter to Rashtriya Vrijanand Andh Kanya Vidyalaya in Delhi. She passed her 10th and 12th examinations with flying colors. These successes emboldened her to join the Janaki Devi College, a college for normal students, for M.Phil. and subsequently Ph.D. in Sanskrit. She spent about twenty-two years away from family and home to become a self-dependent person. This atma-nirbharta acquired through education inspired her to extend it to the other disabled and under-privileged girls in and around Muzaffarpur. With the moral and material support of her family and friends Shubham, a welfare organization, started serving people with all types of disabilities.

She and her team at Shubham, believe that every person, howsoever great his/her disability, can lead a normal, self-dependent and useful life with appropriate education and training. Its motto atma nirbharatwam shubham reflects its philosophy and vision that the secret of welfare lies in spreading self-sufficiency.
